FAQs
Why is it important to hire a photographer who specializes in Newborn photography?
Newborn photography is probably the only niche of photography that requires not only a camera and lighting skills, but also training of safe baby handling and posing. Your baby’s safety is a priority! I have attended many online and in-person newborn workshops. I also continue to work on my education to stay current with industry standards. I’m a member of APNPI.
When is the best time to book a newborn session?
I recommend getting on my schedule as early as possible in your pregnancy. My calendar tends to fill up and booking in advanced guarantees I am able to do your session. I will save your due date in my calendar but we will define the session date once baby is here. Booking early ensures that you have your photo session between the ideal time frame for newborn photos. If possible, please don’t wait until after bay is born to book because I rarely have last minute availability and I wouldn’t want to say no to photographing your baby.
When is it best to have the session done?
The best time to photograph a newborn is between 5-14 days of age. This is because when they are this young they tend to sleep for most of the session and their bodies naturally curve into the really cute poses we put them on. As they hit that two week mark they go through a stage of development where they want to see everything and are more sensitive to the touch. However, if your baby is older, you can definitely get gorgeous images, the workflow and poses will just be a bit different. I’ve done newborn up to 6 weeks of age!
How long does a newborn session last?
The full newborn session lasts anywhere from 2 to 3 hours. Newborn sessions cannot be rushed and I always follow the baby’s lead. Some babies are very sleepy and agreeable and it takes less time, but some babies are more sensitive and need more time to eat and settle down. I always make sure we capture all details of your precious baby.
What can I expect?
My sessions are completely baby led. Some babies prefer things one way, some prefer things a different way, and because of that no two shoots are very the same. I only book one session a day to ensure we are not rushed and gives us plenty of time for baby to feed and settle and also means I get to sneak in a few cuddles along the way too!
Do I need to bring outfits for the baby or parents?
The answer is simple. No! I provide all the necessary props for all my newborn sessions. If you have any items that are very meaningful for you, I will be happy to incorporate them during our newborn photography session. Please let me know about it ahead of time. For parents, I have some options for mom and dad, but I will provide a guide on what to wear for your newborn session in case you want to have your own.
Where will the session be?
Your newborn session can take place in my Stouffville, ON studio or in your home depending on the type of session you choose. Posed newborns take place in the studio only. Lifestyle newborns can be held in your home or in my studio.
What if the baby arrives sooner/later than the due date?
Don’t worry, I have flexibility in my calendar, so I will be able to fit your session in my calendar even if the baby arrives earlier or later than the due date. My clients usually text me once the baby arrives, so we can adjust the session date if needed.
