Milestone sessions are a wonderful way to document and celebrate the significant moments in your baby’s first year of life. These sessions highlight key developmental stages, from their first smiles and giggles to their ability to sit, crawl, and eventually take those precious first steps. Each milestone is an opportunity to create timeless images that reflect your baby’s unique personality and growth. With a blend of candid and posed shots, these sessions provide a beautiful narrative of your baby’s journey, ensuring that these fleeting moments are preserved for you to cherish forever.

The Milestone Process

STEP 01:
SAY HELLO
Your baby is growing quickly! Reach out as soon as possible to start planning the perfect milestone session. For tummy time & sitter sessions, I recommend booking at least 2-3 weeks in advance. For cake smashes, I suggest booking at minimum of 1 month in advanced so we can plan the perfect cake smash session and color choices.
STEP 02:
CONSULTATION
We will then consult with your vision, color choices (for cake smash) and package details for the session. I will send over an electronic contract and questionnaire. A paid session fee and signed agreement are required to secure your session. A prep guide will be sent in order for you to prepare the baby for the special day. Sitter sessions can be done outdoor or indoor.
STEP 03:
THE SESSION
It’s finally here! Scheduled strategically around nap time, we will accommodate your bay and their needs as well as yours. Upon arriving, we will give the child some time to get used to their new environment. We don’t need to rush on the session, will keep the session nice and smooth with calm music, chat and play while your child gets comfortable in front of the camera.
STEP 04:
YOUR IMAGES
Within a week you will receive your proofing gallery via email. Your proofs are lightly edited to give you an idea of their final appearance. Once you’ve selected your images for your package, I will put the finishing touches on your photos and send the download link to your high resolution files. Your gallery will remain active for one month after delivery, allowing you plenty of time to share with family and decided on any purchases.

Sweet Tales Photography offers simple, all-inclusive digital packages that allow you to take home all of your favorite images from your session.

A $200 retainer is due at the time of booking to reserve your day and time and is applied toward your total collections.

SITTER SESSION

Milestone sessions are intended for babies 3-12 months of age and are a great way to capture your baby’s personality, delightful expressions and newfound curiosity about the world around them. During these sessions, we focus on your baby’s individuality and personality, capturing a mix of candid moments and carefully posed portraits.

Sessions last up to 1 hour and can take place in studio or on-location. I will photograph your baby in a variety of poses & angles to maximize the happy time we have while still showcasing their milestone. Whether they are sitting, pulling up to standing, crawling, tummy time, etc. I will make sure to capture the sweetest smiles and most serious pouts. Access to the studio’s classic baby wardrobe is included. These sessions provide a beautiful way to document this important phase, creating lasting memories of your baby’s journey as they grow and explore.

Let’s have some fun! Cake smash sessions are a perfect way to document your child’s first birthday! I’m all about classic, minimalistic, timeless cake smash sessions. Sessions are designed with a simple approach & minimal props so that the focus is on your little one and their sweet little features!

Cake smashes includes a neutral, timeless backdrop, and a complimentary “naked cake”. We have a wide range of beautiful outfits available in the studio for your little ones, however, you are welcome to bring along 1-2 outfits. Depending on the package you choose, we will start with family, then portraits of the baby and finally move to the fun part and watch your little one explore their first birthday cake. We finish with a splash bath session that is sure to deliver lots of smiles!

FAQs

when should we book?

Please book in with at least 3 weeks notice – this is so I can order your cake and ensure I have the correct decorations for your colour scheme or theme. Absolutely everything is provided so all you need to bring is the birthday baby!

How long does a first birthday cake smash photography session usually last?

First birthday cake smash sessions generally last around 40 minutes to 1 hour, allowing enough time for family portraits, classic pre-smash birthday photos, the cake smash portion and finish it off in our adorable miniature bathtub for the splash portion.

Can parents and siblings be included in the photoshoot?

Absolutely! We encourage parents and siblings to join in for family photos before the cake smash, some siblings even get involved in a few of the smash photos (if desired). Siblings love being involved in your child’s first birthday photos!

Do you provide the cake or should we bring our own?

Our cake smash photography sessions are all inclusive which means you don’t have to worry about a single thing! We work with local bakeries to provide a custom cake for the session and have an array of themed and neutral outfits for your little one to wear. We’ll discuss preferences, themes, and any dietary restrictions during the planning process.

How can I prepare my child for the first birthday cake smash session?

Booking your session around your little ones nap schedule is very important. Keep your child well-rested and fed before the session. Bringing a few familiar toys or comfort items can help them feel more at ease in the new environment. We’ll send out a detailed prep guide ahead of your session.

What happens if my child is scared or uncooperative during their first birthday photoshoot?

It’s entirely normal for children to feel a bit overwhelmed initially. We take a gentle and patient approach, allowing them time to get used to the new environment. We’ll also capture candid moments, even if they don’t smash the cake.

How far ahead should I book my smash?

I have limited availability so it’s best to book as far ahead as you’re able to. one months ahead is typically ideal.

Do you have outfit options for my child?

I do have outfit options for your baby boy or girl in my studio.
